Brigg Ladies 1XI Team had a solid performance on home ground against Huddersfield Dragons 1XI but were unable to come away with a decisive win. Dragons went down to 10 players within the first quarter due to a stumble and moved quickly to playing in a defensive clump.
A change in the team structure for Brigg moving to 3 defensive backs, 5 mid field and 2 forwards led to a lot of ball possession for Brigg deep in the attacking half. The first half of the match saw a number of penalty corners won by Brigg from clever plays in the D however only one of these was capitalised on. Dickson made the first mark on the scoresheet to Brigg with a stunning straight strike on goal for 1-0.

With Brigg applying a lot of pressure high up the field, this allowed for one or two break throughs of attack into open space by Huddersfield Dragons. Although there were strong efforts from the defence to pull back, one such break through led to a one on one with Brigg goalkeeper Porter and an equalising goal to Dragons 1-1 in the final minutes of the first half.

The second half again saw the majority of possession with Brigg and again more short corners. It also saw the first green card of the season for Brigg Ladies 1st XI with Pell (perhaps unfairly) taking the hit for a number of stick tackles blown in the match against both teams previously. With both teams down to 10 players each, cautious attacking and hard defending led to a very congested centre field area and unfortunately no more goals were to come from the efforts put in by Brigg.

It was without doubt a disappointing result for the Brigg Ladies 1st XI, a strong effort was put in by all players and opportunities were there to take the 3 points. Perhaps the way Dragons defended centrally on the pitch with 10 players and pressed very high, coupled with the new structure of a more highly populated mid-field for Brigg led to fewer options higher up the pitch to finish and fewer options to switch the ball around the back. However this formation did prove hugely beneficial from a possession point of view and there were some truly excellent plays within it, so definitely a formation to continue to work on.
